Associate Professor of Art Education and CLALS member, Melanie Davenport, has worked with indigenous Wixarika (Huichol) youth in central Mexico to create animated shorts illustrating their own stories in their own language. One of these, “Yuimakwara” (the Drum Celebration) will be shown in two film festivals at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian in New York. Partial support for this project came from a CLALS grant.

“The Drum Celebration,” other shorts, and more information about this project can be viewed at the website created and maintained by Davenport’s collaborator, Karin Gunn.
